Policy Landscape

Embodied carbon policies are rapidly emerging across the United States and globally. These policies often cover structural materials or structural systems and can include mandatory requirements that can impact the structural design and specification for projects.

The map below, provided by the Carbon Leadership Forum, tracks such embodied carbon policies across a wide-range of applications. Structural engineers should investigate which policies are applicable to their own projects and jurisdictions.

How to use the map:

  • Click on the map markers to learn more about existing and proposed policies. For more information about the individual policies, click on the headline for each policy.
  • View the map in full-screen mode to see a table of policies that can be searched and filtered.
